2:54 - Creeping
Sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow front this London band given the ambiguous shoe-gazer label. This single comes off their eponymous debut album, released May 29, which is today for some of you and tomorrow for others.

Talking Heads - Born Under Punches (Live 1980)
Another one from this great archive.
Reblogging this great performance from Rome because it’s been in my head today, and I wanted to mention that Adrian Belew was the featured guitarist.

Love and Rockets - Saudade
First heard this tune on the Late Night Tales compilation that was curated by The Flaming Lips. This tune is simply beautiful.
This song is the final track from their first album, Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven, and beautifully sums up how far removed they were from the heavier sounds of their previous bands, Bauhaus and Tones On Tail.
Saudade - A Portuguese word with no equivalent English word, describing
a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. It often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return. It’s related to the feelings of longing, yearning. (Wikipedia)

XTC - Ladybird
A fan video with beautiful imagery worthy of such a song, simplistic in its musical complexity, if that makes any sense. One of the highlights from 1983’s Mummer.

The Duke Spirit - Glorious
A new video by Kid Acne for what I’m assuming will be another single off of last year’s Bruiser LP.

The Sonics - Have Love Will Travel
Washington state’s seminal garage/punk/grunge band. They likely influenced your favorite band (or their favorite band), and were one of the founders of the thriving Seattle scene.

The Pointed Sticks - Out of Luck
In the late ‘70’s / early ‘80’s every town (that wasn’t London, New York or to a lesser extent, L.A.) had this band… The Little Band That Could(n’t). Great music… great songs… the next big New Wave wonder… except, no. When they finally went to New York or London or L.A., it all fell apart… bad contracts… bad label meddling… bad drug habits… bad luck. The Pointed Sticks were Vancouver’s version of this phenomena… a Elvis Costello meets the Ramones New Wave / Punk band that jumped on the rocket to nowhere after signing with Stiff Records.
On the plus side, though, the surviving members do seem to be enjoying a surprising, waaay after the fact, burst of quasi-popularity. Which is nice.
From the EP, Out of Luck (Stiff Records)
Best. Let’s not forget the incredible debt they owe to The Sonics.
